AI Revolutionizes Software Development, Says Prashant Verma
Artificial intelligence (AI) is fundamentally transforming the software development industry, evolving from basic automation to an integrated, intelligent approach. In a recent episode of the Analytics Insight podcast, host Priya Dialani engaged with Prashant Verma, Head of R&D India at Harness, to discuss this significant shift. As organizations increasingly adopt smarter tools and streamlined workflows, AI is becoming central to the software development process, impacting how software is built, tested, secured, and delivered.
The podcast highlighted that the current focus extends beyond merely writing code quickly. It now emphasizes creating interconnected systems that learn, adapt, and enhance their performance with each iteration. According to Verma, the key question companies face today is not whether to implement AI in their development processes but rather how effectively it can enhance quality, security, speed, and overall business impact.
Harness: Pioneering AI-Powered Software Delivery
Founded in 2017, Harness has established itself as a leading AI-driven software delivery platform, currently supporting over 1,000 customers globally. The company aims to assist millions of software teams in delivering code efficiently, reliably, and securely. Harness’s platform concentrates on four main areas: DevOps, Testing, Security, and FinOps.
Despite AI’s ability to increase coding speed by three to four times, significant portions of developers’ time continue to be consumed by testing, security evaluations, and deployment tasks. Harness is focused on bridging this gap, enabling engineers to maximize their productivity while maintaining high standards.
A Leadership Journey in Technology
Prashant Verma brings over 25 years of experience in enterprise systems, e-commerce platforms, and global technology firms. Since joining Harness, he has played a pivotal role in the rapid growth of the India R&D center, expanding the team and enhancing the company’s AI capabilities. His career reflects a unique blend of large-scale enterprise expertise and consumer-level innovation.
Throughout the podcast, Verma underscored the importance of ensuring that AI serves as a support system for developers, rather than a replacement. By reducing manual effort by 30–40%, AI tools allow engineers to concentrate on design and decision-making. Nonetheless, he emphasized that governance and robust review systems are crucial to ensuring safe and reliable outcomes in AI-powered development.
The episode concluded with a strong message: AI-enabled software delivery is emerging as the new standard for the industry. Organizations that embrace this transition early are poised to lead in the future of digital innovation, significantly shaping how software is developed and delivered across various sectors.
