Reds Sign Keegan Thompson to Urgent One-Year, $1.3M Deal
BREAKING: The Cincinnati Reds have officially signed right-hander Keegan Thompson to a one-year contract worth $1.3 million for his time in the majors, with an additional $350,000 if he plays in the minors. This crucial development was announced on July 18, 2023, as Thompson aims to bolster the Reds’ pitching lineup.
This deal includes performance bonuses that could push his earnings up by $100,000. Thompson will receive $10,000 for each milestone achieved in games pitched (20-70 games), innings pitched (25-120 innings), and starts (6-14 starts).
At just 30 years old, Thompson brings valuable experience to Cincinnati after a strong showing in the minors last season. He recorded a 6-2 record with a 4.50 ERA while pitching for the Chicago Cubs‘ Triple-A team in Iowa. His previous tenure with the Cubs from 2021 to 2024 saw him compile a 17-11 record and a 3.64 ERA over 23 starts and 81 relief appearances.
This signing marks a significant move for the Reds as they look to enhance their pitching depth amid a competitive season. Thompson’s ability to perform in various roles could be critical as the Reds aim for a successful campaign.
As fans await Thompson’s debut, all eyes will be on his performance metrics this season. The Reds are counting on his experience and skill set to make an immediate impact on their roster.
Stay tuned for more updates as the Reds prepare for the upcoming games and Thompson’s potential contributions to the team!
