Former Rutgers Players Shine in 2025-26 Season Openers

BREAKING: Former Rutgers basketball stars made an immediate impact during their first games with new teams in the 2025-26 season on November 6, 2025. With the Scarlet Knights set to open their season on November 8, the trio of players who transferred this offseason showcased their skills and helped their new teams secure critical victories.

Lathan Sommerville led the way for Washington, scoring 9 points and grabbing 5 rebounds in a dominant 94-50 win over Arkansas Pine-Bluff. Coming off the bench, Sommerville made 7-of-8 free throws and contributed defensively with one block.

As for the remaining former Scarlet Knights, Gavin Griffiths and Antonio Chol are set to debut with their teams on November 8, with Griffiths’ Temple squad facing Delaware State and Chol’s New Mexico team taking on East Texas A&M.
