Packers’ Tucker Kraft Out for Season with Torn ACL Injury

In a significant blow to their season, Tucker Kraft, tight end for the Green Bay Packers, has been ruled out for the remainder of the year due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee. The injury was confirmed following an MRI conducted on November 5, 2023, after Kraft was injured during the Packers’ narrow 16-13 loss to the Carolina Panthers the day before.

Kraft was having a standout season, projected to achieve over 70 receptions and 1,100 receiving yards, both of which would have set records for a tight end in Packers history.

Head Coach Matt LaFleur acknowledged the challenges ahead following Kraft’s injury. “It’s going to be tough, but you’ve got to attack it head on,” he stated. LaFleur emphasized the need to position other players effectively to maximize their potential in Kraft’s absence.

With Kraft sidelined, Luke Musgrave, who was selected one round earlier than Kraft in the 2023 NFL Draft, will step up as the team’s primary tight end. Musgrave was picked in the second round (No. 42 overall), while Kraft was a third-round selection (No. 78 overall). LaFleur expressed confidence in Musgrave, stating, “He’s going to have to be ready for a bigger role. Both him and [John] Fitz[Patrick].”

The loss of Kraft not only affects the Packers’ offensive strategy but also the team dynamic. LaFleur remarked on Kraft’s contributions, noting, “More than anything, I know how much Tuck puts into this. He’s a big part of our team, a great leader, and it’s hard to replace that.”

Kraft’s injury occurred during a blocking assignment on a running play, where it appears that guard Sean Rhyan was cut-blocked into him. Rhyan described the incident, saying, “All I know is that motherf—er’s helmet was into my knees. He went low on me, so I had to try to avoid my knees getting clipped out, too.”

The Packers are already facing additional challenges, as they concluded the game against the Panthers without several key players, including receiver Matthew Golden (shoulder), left guard Aaron Banks (stinger), and defensive tackle Colby Wooden (shoulder). As they prepare for their next match against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night, the team will need to adapt quickly to the ongoing injuries.
