The renowned host of *Project Runway* transformed into Medusa, a character she describes as “very ugly” yet iconic. This year’s costume took a remarkable six months to craft, reflecting Klum’s commitment to creativity and artistry in her Halloween presentations.

In an interview with *Vogue*, Klum explained her inspiration behind the Medusa costume. “I wanted to explore the classic monsters of history and reimagine one in a modern way,” she said. She highlighted Medusa’s allure, noting her “mysterious yet ferocious” nature. Klum pointed out that the legend of Medusa, who could turn humans to stone, has captivated audiences for centuries, evident from the numerous depictions found in museums.

Despite her usual extensive planning, Klum settled on the Medusa concept only in April. Nevertheless, she collaborated closely with her friend and costume designer, Mike Marino, who enthusiastically agreed to the project. Klum praised Marino’s creative prowess, stating, “He is a great collaborator, because he can not only bring the costume to life but also comes up with ideas to make it even bigger and better.” Marino’s team is well-respected in the industry, boasting multiple Oscar nominations and an Emmy award for *The Penguin*.

The elaborate costume required significant preparation. Klum spent nine hours in the makeup chair, a process she shared with her followers via Instagram. “I love that all of the snakes move independently—they look so real,” she remarked. Klum also highlighted a custom split snake tongue, describing it as “just next level.” Her dedication to the costume reflects her desire to continually challenge herself and exceed previous years’ efforts.

Klum ensured that her costume would not hinder her enjoyment at the party. “I made sure that I can dance in my costume,” she stated, looking forward to dancing to the music provided by her friend Questlove, who served as the event’s DJ.
