Blue Jays’ Springer Returns; Dodgers Shift Betts to Cleanup in Game 6
UPDATE: The Toronto Blue Jays are making a critical push for the World Series title with George Springer returning to the lineup for Game 6, while the Los Angeles Dodgers are adjusting their batting order in a desperate attempt to extend the series to Game 7.
In a high-stakes matchup set for Friday, October 20, 2025, Springer will take the leadoff position after missing the previous two games due to a strained right side muscle sustained during a swing in Game 3. His presence is crucial as the Blue Jays lead the series 3-2 and aim for their first championship since 1993.
The Dodgers, facing elimination, have made a bold move by shifting Mookie Betts to the cleanup spot for the first time since September 2017. Betts, who has struggled offensively this series with a 3-for-23 performance, hopes to ignite the Dodgers’ lineup, which has been limited to just three runs and ten hits in the last two games against the Blue Jays.
Toronto manager John Schneider confirmed that Springer was close to returning for Game 5 but ultimately held out until now. Springer, 36, has made history with his 63 leadoff homers, ranking second all-time behind Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson. He previously played a pivotal role in the American League Championship Series, hitting a three-run homer in Game 7 against the Seattle Mariners, propelling Toronto to the World Series.
With Springer back, Bo Bichette will transition to second base for the third time this series, a position he had not played in the majors prior to this postseason. This strategic shift highlights the Blue Jays’ determination to clinch the title on home turf.
A Dodgers victory today would force the first World Series Game 7 since 2019, adding even more intensity to an already thrilling series. As both teams prepare for this critical showdown, fans are on the edge of their seats, knowing that today could mark a historic moment for the Blue Jays or a dramatic comeback for the Dodgers.
