Corey Perry Sparks Kings’ Revival Ahead of Clash with Devils
Corey Perry is making a significant impact on the Los Angeles Kings as they prepare to face the New Jersey Devils on October 28, 2023. After a challenging start to the season, the Kings find themselves looking to establish their identity, with Perry’s recent performance playing a crucial role in their resurgence.
Perry, a veteran forward and former Stanley Cup champion, has quickly become a key asset for the Kings. Following a successful stint with the Anaheim Ducks, where he won the Hart Trophy, Perry joined the Kings this summer and has already notched five goals in his last five games. Teammate Drew Doughty praised Perry’s influence, stating, “He’s a great player and a great pro.”
At 40 years old, Perry is one of only three active players from the 2003 NHL Draft and the last remaining forward from that class. His experience and leadership are invaluable, especially for younger players like Quinton Byfield, who noted, “He’s always talking and staying engaged in the game.”
Perry’s contributions have coincided with a positive shift for the Kings, who have been searching for consistency throughout the season. Their current points streak includes six of the last seven games played with Perry in the lineup. On Thursday, he played a pivotal role in a thrilling comeback against the Detroit Red Wings, scoring two late goals to force overtime. Despite their efforts, the Kings fell short but managed to secure another point, bringing their record to 5-3-4 with a total of 14 points.
Despite the recent success, Perry remains grounded. “Yeah, we’re getting points, but we’re still trying to find our game,” he said. “I don’t think we’re anywhere near where we can be and how we can play.” This perspective reflects the team’s ongoing quest for improvement as they prepare to take on the Devils, who currently hold a record of 8-3-0 with 16 points.
The upcoming game at the Crypto.com Arena is set to begin at 18:00. The Kings will face a formidable opponent in the Devils, who recently experienced an eight-game winning streak before suffering back-to-back losses. With stars like Jack Hughes leading their offense and Jake Allen in goal, the Devils will provide a tough challenge for the Kings.
As the Kings continue to navigate the early part of the season, Corey Perry’s impact is evident. His ability to score and lead both on and off the ice could be the catalyst the Kings need to find their game and build momentum as the season progresses.
