George Springer OUT for Game 5, Could Return for Game 6
URGENT UPDATE: Toronto Blue Jays’ designated hitter George Springer will not start in Game 5 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers today, but manager John Schneider has hinted he could be available off the bench. This development comes as Springer recovers from right side discomfort that also sidelined him for Game 4 earlier this week.
Springer, who left Game 3 early after an awkward swing, was seen hitting in the batting cage and engaging in light running exercises just hours before the game. “George is feeling better,” Schneider stated. “I think better than he expected to feel, better than we expected him to feel, which is saying a lot.”
In Springer’s absence, Bo Bichette will take over as the team’s designated hitter, while Isiah Kiner-Falefa is set to start at second base. This is a crucial moment for the Blue Jays as they strive to maintain momentum in the series.
Springer has been a vital player throughout the postseason, currently holding a batting average of .273 with two runs scored in this World Series. His leadership both on the field and in the clubhouse has been key for the Blue Jays, particularly after a challenging previous season.
“He’s had an unbelievable year, and I think that he has done a phenomenal job of kind of setting the tone for us,” Schneider praised. “It’s been fun to watch him.”
As the series progresses, the team is optimistic that the extra rest will allow Springer to return for Game 6, scheduled for October 27, 2023, in Toronto. Fans are eagerly awaiting updates on his recovery as the Blue Jays aim to bounce back and secure a win against the Dodgers.
With Game 5 kicking off soon, keep an eye on this developing story as the Blue Jays look to capitalize on their postseason journey. The stakes are high, and every moment counts as they strive for victory.
