Urgent Recall: Two Candy Bars May Contain Life-Threatening Allergens
UPDATE: Just days before Halloween, candy lovers face a critical recall as Zingerman’s Candy Manufactory announces that two of its popular candy bars may contain undeclared allergens. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed the recall on October 24, 2023, raising alarms for consumers with nut allergies.
The affected products include the full-size Peanut Butter Crush bars, which may contain undeclared cashews, and the Ca$hew Cow bars, potentially containing undeclared peanuts. According to Zingerman’s, individuals with allergies or severe sensitivities to these nuts are at risk of serious or even life-threatening reactions if they consume these products.
The recall affects candy distributed primarily in Michigan and New York. The Peanut Butter Crush bars are packaged in eye-catching yellow and purple boxes marked with Lot #174250, while the Ca$hew Cow bars come in light blue and yellow boxes, also labeled with Lot #174250.
Zingerman’s issued the recall after discovering that the packaging did not disclose the presence of cashews and peanuts due to a temporary breakdown in production and packaging processes. Fortunately, the company has stated that it is unaware of any reported illnesses related to this issue.
“We take food safety very seriously,” the company stated. “Immediate measures have been taken to rectify the situation and ensure such errors do not happen again.”
Consumers who have purchased the recalled candy bars are urged to return them to the point of purchase for a full refund. This announcement serves as a critical reminder for those with nut allergies to double-check their treats during this festive season.
As Halloween approaches, the urgency of this recall cannot be overstated. Parents and caregivers are advised to remain vigilant and ensure that any candy consumed is safe. Don’t take chances with your health—check your candy stash now!
