URGENT UPDATE: A dog named Rascal has been successfully rescued after spending two days trapped in a deep well in Harrison County, Mississippi. The dramatic rescue unfolded as firefighters worked tirelessly to save the pet that fell into the well during a home remodeling project.

Rascal fell into the well, which measures 18 inches in diameter and plunges 20 feet deep, while the homeowner was renovating the kitchen flooring. The incident occurred on Thursday, October 26, 2023, and he was finally brought to safety on Saturday.

According to a statement from Harrison County Fire and Rescue (HCFR), the well contained a small void at the bottom where Rascal was hiding. Firefighters were granted permission to break up the floor directly above the well opening to facilitate his rescue. While they worked, a sheet of plywood was placed over the well to prevent any falling debris from injuring Rascal.

Firefighters used a rope with a loop to coax Rascal out from his hiding spot, employing treats as a lure. It took approximately 45 minutes for the team to safely retrieve Rascal and bring him back to the surface.

This heartwarming rescue highlights the dedication of local firefighters and the bonds between pets and their families. As the community rejoices in Rascal’s safe return, officials are urging homeowners to remain vigilant during home renovations to prevent similar accidents.
