Macklin Celebrini Named NHL First Star After Stellar Week
URGENT UPDATE: Macklin Celebrini has been named the NHL’s First Star of the Week following a sensational performance that has reinvigorated the San Jose Sharks’ season. Celebrini, just 19 years old, leads the league in scoring among Canadian-born forwards and is currently third overall with 15 points in just nine games.
After a rough start to the season, the Sharks have rallied, winning two of their last three games. Celebrini’s impressive performance included a game-winning overtime goal in a 6-5 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Sunday. “I’m playing with really good players,” Celebrini stated, acknowledging the support from his linemates.
As the Sharks prepare for their upcoming home game against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday, Celebrini is on a four-game point streak with five goals and five assists. This marks a significant turnaround for a team that started the season 0-4-2. “Getting those points is huge,” he said after the Wild game, emphasizing the importance of their recent wins.
Celebrini’s ambitions extend beyond the Sharks as he eyes a spot on the 2026 Canadian Olympic team. With heavy competition from established NHL stars, the pressure is on as rosters must be finalized by December 31. Notably, players like Mark Scheifele and Nick Suzuki are also putting forth strong performances.
In an emotional moment following Sunday’s game, Celebrini met with young fan Luke Schumann, a cancer survivor who he has formed a special bond with since their first meeting in April. Schumann, diagnosed with a rare form of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at just five years old, inspired Celebrini during his breakout performances.
The Sharks have seen a marked improvement in their offensive output, scoring 29 goals in their first nine games, a feat they took twelve games to achieve last season. However, defensive struggles remain, as they sit last in the NHL with an average of 4.67 goals allowed per game.
In other notable news, Sharks winger Tyler Toffoli is set to play his 900th NHL game against the Kings, adding another chapter to his impressive career that includes a Stanley Cup victory with Los Angeles.
As the Sharks look to build on their recent success, all eyes will be on Celebrini and his quest to lift the team out of the NHL basement. The upcoming game against the Kings will be crucial in determining the Sharks’ trajectory this season. Stay tuned for live updates as this story develops.
