East River Bowling Team Rebounds to Win District Title After Loss
UPDATE: The East River girls bowling team has rebounded from a stunning loss to clinch the District 6 title at Boardwalk Bowl just hours ago. This comes after their first defeat in three years, sending shockwaves through the competitive bowling community.
The defending state champions faced a fierce challenge from Space Coast in the finals and were momentarily shaken after losing 3-0 in a prior matchup. In a dramatic turn of events, East River stormed back to deliver a commanding performance, averaging 210 in a pivotal rematch to secure their spot in the upcoming state tournament.
Coach Tom Tagye inspired his team with a powerful message after the initial defeat: “Champions doing championship things.” His words resonated, motivating the Falcons to bounce back with determination. Key players EmmyLou Molina and Camdyn Nielsen demonstrated incredible teamwork, with Molina suggesting a substitution to better the team’s chances. Nielsen, who boasts a 210 average, requested a lineup change to take on a more impactful role.
Leading the Falcons to victory was last season’s area player of the year, Larielle Tharps, who delivered a stellar 678 series. Nielsen contributed 663, while Jada Vidal added 625 to the mix, showcasing the depth of talent within the squad.
The boys’ District 6 title was claimed by Astronaut, who faced their own challenges in a tightly contested series. In an exciting final, Astronaut overcame Hagerty after a thrilling 3-1 victory in the decisive match.
In District 4, the South Lake boys team continued their dominance with a jaw-dropping total of 3,405 pins, defeating University (Orange City) in their championship match. Brody Carter shone with a remarkable 759 series, while Ryan Sapp contributed 734. The South Lake girls also triumphed, winning their first district title with a 3-2 victory against Villages Charter.
Meanwhile, in District 7, Windermere also celebrated a historic win, with the boys defeating Lyman to secure their inaugural title, and the girls clinching victory against Apopka led by Mia Santiago’s impressive 558 series.
As the excitement builds, all eyes are now on the state finals starting Tuesday night at Boardwalk Bowl, where both team and individual qualifiers will compete over the next few days.
This thrilling championship weekend highlights the resilience, teamwork, and spirit of these talented young athletes, making the upcoming state tournament a must-watch event.
