Luka Doncic Scores 43 But Downplays Groin Injury After Loss
URGENT UPDATE: Luka Doncic’s impressive 43-point performance was overshadowed by a potential groin injury following the Los Angeles Lakers’ 119-109 loss to the Golden State Warriors on October 24, 2023. After clocking in 41 minutes on the court, Doncic sought treatment for discomfort in his right leg, raising immediate concerns among fans and analysts alike.
Emerging from the training room nearly 90 minutes after the game, Doncic reassured reporters, stating, “It’s probably nothing,” referring to the issue he felt when his hip moved awkwardly. “Just felt it a little bit, but it’s probably nothing.” Despite the scare, Doncic’s performance was nothing short of spectacular, as he also recorded 12 rebounds and 9 assists, showcasing his skills on both ends of the court.
Doncic’s agility and defensive involvement appeared enhanced compared to last season, contributing two steals against Golden State. “I think I’m getting better on the defensive end, I’m just trying to get more involved, more communication [with my teammates],” Doncic said. His offseason commitment to fitness clearly paid off, as he shot an impressive 13-for-14 in the paint and 15-for-17 on two-pointers, according to ESPN Research.
However, the Lakers faced significant challenges, including a staggering 20 turnovers that allowed the Warriors to capitalize with 22 points. Doncic struggled from beyond the arc, hitting only 2-for-10 on three-pointers, part of the team’s overall poor shooting of 8-for-32 from long range.
The second half proved disastrous for the Lakers, who were outscored 35-25 in the third quarter, a recurring issue that coach JJ Redick highlighted. “The trend I see is that we continue to be a terrible third-quarter team,” Redick remarked. “Gotta rethink some things and it’s, you know, a two-way thing with the guys.”
As the Lakers prepare for their next game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday, there is hope that Doncic will recover adequately during the two days of practice and recovery. Fans will be eager to see if the star player can maintain his high level of play while ensuring his health remains a priority.
Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops and the Lakers seek to rebound from their season-opening setback.
