Yolo County Homeowners Face Property Tax Deadline on December 10

Homeowners in Yolo County, California, are reminded that the deadline to pay the first installment of their 2025-26 property taxes is fast approaching. According to a statement from the Yolo County Tax Collector’s Office, payments must be made by 5:00 p.m. on December 10, 2025, to avoid a significant penalty of 10 percent, as outlined in the California Revenue & Taxation Code.
For those who prefer to mail their payments, it is crucial to ensure that the postmark is from the U.S. Postal Service by December 10. Homeowners also have the option to pay electronically, either online or via phone. It is important to note that a convenience fee of 2.34% will apply to credit or debit card transactions, while e-check payments remain free of charge. All electronic transactions must be completed by 11:59 p.m. on the deadline date, so early payment is strongly advised.
Key Reminders for Homeowners
The Tax Collector’s Office has emphasized that ignorance of the tax bill’s arrival is not an acceptable excuse for late payments. Homeowners who do not receive their bills should promptly contact the office at (530) 666-8625 or email [email protected]. In-person assistance is available at the Tax Collector’s Office, located at 625 Court Street, Room 102, Woodland, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on weekdays, with extended hours until 5:00 p.m. on December 10.
Why is timely payment essential? Beyond avoiding penalties, property taxes serve as a crucial funding source for community resources, including schools, community colleges, and rural fire districts. These districts rely on property taxes for over 90 percent of their annual funding. The County itself retains about 9 percent of the total revenue generated from property taxes, equating to approximately 9 cents of every tax dollar paid.
Property owners in Yolo County are encouraged to take action now to ensure they meet the upcoming deadline and contribute to the well-being of their community.
