Carol Stent, Beloved Wife and Community Advocate, Dies at 86
Carol A. Stent, a cherished wife and advocate for animals, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 22, 2025, at her home in Overton, Nevada. She was surrounded by her loving husband, David Y. Nakahara Esq. Carol was 86 years old at the time of her death and left a legacy of kindness and compassion.
Born on July 14, 1939, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to John and Jenny (Slajinsky) Prespolis, Carol was the eldest of seven siblings. She graduated in the Class of 1957 from Saint Mary’s of the Annunciation (SMA), where she forged lifelong friendships and received guidance from the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. Following her graduation, the spirit of adventure propelled Carol and four classmates to San Francisco, California, where they began their professional lives and formed significant personal connections.
Her beauty and zest for life caught the attention of Raymond Michael Stent, a young medical intern from England, during her time in Los Angeles, California. After Raymond completed his residency at U.C.L.A. and achieved board certification in neurology, the couple married at the picturesque Wayfarers Chapel. Their marriage ended in divorce in the 1980s, but Carol’s journey continued as she found love again with David Nakahara. The couple wed on May 20, 1989, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Carol and David shared a deep bond, raising a total of seventeen pets together, whom they affectionately referred to as their “fur babies.” Carol’s love for all creatures was evident throughout her life. She played a crucial role in caring for David’s elderly parents during their final years, offering support and counsel, even as she recovered from a stroke that left her partially paralyzed.
Known for her sharp wit and unwavering spirit, Carol contributed greatly to her community and brought joy to those around her. She was passionate about advocating for animal welfare, embodying the phrase “All Creatures Great and Small.” Her ability to shine a light on those in need, combined with her resilience, made her a beloved figure in her circle.
Carol is survived by her devoted husband, David, and her sisters, Paula Couture of Dracut, Massachusetts and Naples, Florida, Janet Buchino of Randolph, Massachusetts and Naples, Florida, and Helen Botehlo of Conway, South Carolina. Her legacy will continue to resonate with all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
As friends and family mourn her passing, they remember Carol A. Stent for her remarkable life filled with love, adventure, and unwavering commitment to those she cared for. Her impact on the lives of many will not be forgotten.
