UPDATE: The Sacramento Kings have officially announced that All-Star center Domantas Sabonis will be sidelined for at least a week due to a Grade 1 hamstring strain. This injury comes as a significant blow to the Kings just days before their season opener against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

Sabonis sustained the injury during a preseason matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers last Wednesday night, where he exited the game early. Following the incident, he missed the preseason finale in Los Angeles on Friday as he underwent extensive testing.

The Kings confirmed that Sabonis will not play in their highly anticipated season opener or in the subsequent home game against the Utah Jazz on Friday, October 26, 2023. The earliest Sabonis could potentially return to action is during a home game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday, October 29, 2023.

This injury adds further complications for the Kings, who are already grappling with the absence of fourth-year power forward Keegan Murray. Murray is expected to miss at least a month due to a torn UCL in his left thumb. In light of these setbacks, the team has been testing out alternatives, including second-year center Isaac Jones and veterans Dario Saric and Drew Eubanks, to fill the void left by both Sabonis and Murray during the preseason.

As the Kings prepare for the upcoming games, fans and analysts are closely watching how the team adapts to these injuries. The absence of key players like Sabonis and Murray raises questions about the team’s depth and performance as they aim to start the season strong.

Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops and the Kings navigate these challenges ahead of their season debut.
