Oprah Winfrey Responds to Critics Over Fashion Week Appearance
Oprah Winfrey has addressed online criticism regarding her appearance at Paris Fashion Week, where some social media users mocked her for walking as if she were “90 years old.” In a light-hearted response shared on Instagram, Winfrey explained that her unusual stride was due to her inability to see clearly while wearing sunglasses that lacked prescription lenses.
The incident occurred earlier this month as Winfrey and longtime friend Gayle King made their way to the Chloe fashion show. Reflecting on the moment, Winfrey stated, “I didn’t know where I was walking, I could not see,” adding that her assistant had just handed her the sunglasses before she exited the car. She humorously emphasized her lack of visibility, saying, “I told security, ‘I can’t see. Tell me, tell me where I’m walking.’”
As Winfrey continued to recount the event, she noted that King was also dealing with physical challenges, stating, “Gayle’s like, ‘I got two broken toes. I can’t walk.’” Their combined circumstances contributed to the perception of their slow, cautious approach, leading to the online jabs.
Fans quickly rallied to support Winfrey, with many finding humor in her explanation. One user commented on the clip, “She is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and funny,” while another noted that her inability to see made the situation even more amusing.
Oprah’s Stunning Transformation
Winfrey’s appearance at the fashion event was notable not just for the criticism but also for her significant weight loss. The 72-year-old media mogul arrived at the Chloe runway show looking noticeably slimmer, dressed in high-waisted jeans, a cream-colored top, and a stylish brown jacket. Her outfit was completed with a pair of Chloe sunglasses, a white handbag, and pointed high-heeled shoes.
Earlier this year, Winfrey shared her journey towards weight loss after years of struggling with obesity. In December 2025, she disclosed her decision to start taking GLP-1 weight loss medication, a move she made after realizing the impact of genetics on her weight. “If you have obesity in your gene pool, I want people to know it’s not your fault,” she stated, urging others not to blame themselves for factors beyond their control.
Winfrey emphasized the importance of sharing information about obesity and its related challenges, encouraging people to make informed choices regarding their health. Following her introduction of the GLP-1 medication into her routine, she reported feeling a sense of calm and strength that helped her manage her eating habits.
In a world where public figures are often scrutinized, Winfrey’s candidness about her health journey and her playful response to online trolls demonstrate her resilience and commitment to empowering others. Her story resonates with many, as she continues to inspire through her openness and humor.
