Max Muncy Hits 14th Playoff HR, Sets Dodgers Franchise Record

UPDATE: In a thrilling Game 2 of the National League Championship Series, Max Muncy propelled the Los Angeles Dodgers to victory with a historic moment, smashing his 14th career postseason home run on October 10, 2023. The game took place in Milwaukee against the Brewers, where Muncy’s 412-foot blast over the center-field wall marked a new franchise record.
This home run, hit off starter Freddy Peralta in the sixth inning, extended the Dodgers’ lead to 3-1. The Dodgers ultimately secured a 5-1 victory, taking a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. The significance of this milestone cannot be overstated, as Muncy surpassed previous record holders Justin Turner and Corey Seager.
“It means a lot to me,” Muncy stated after the game. “The Dodgers are a franchise that have been around for a very, very long time… to be able to break that record is kind of huge for me.”
Muncy’s achievement emphasizes his experience, as he has now played in 70 postseason games for the Dodgers. In contrast, Turner participated in 86 games from 2014-2022, and Seager played in 61 games from 2015-2021. Muncy expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete in so many meaningful October games, underscoring the importance of striving for a World Series championship.
Interestingly, Muncy nearly set the record in Game 1 when he hit a potential grand slam that resulted in an unusual 8-6-2 double play. Center fielder Sal Frelick attempted to make a leaping catch, but the ball popped off the wall, leading to a chaotic play that left Muncy frustrated.
“I definitely thought he got it,” Muncy recalled. “When I didn’t see it bounce, I thought he came down with it again… but I saw him sit on the ground. That’s when I realized he didn’t have it.”
As the Dodgers prepare for Game 3, excitement builds around Muncy’s record-breaking performance and the team’s potential to continue their postseason success. Fans eagerly await the next chapter in this thrilling playoff series.
