GigaBite Robotics Seeks Donations to Boost STEM in South Lake Tahoe
GigaBite Robotics, a community-based robotics team from South Lake Tahoe, is actively seeking donations to enhance STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) opportunities for local students. The team, known as FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Team 20681, is comprised of 11 middle and high school students dedicated to fostering hands-on STEM experiences.
In the past year, GigaBite Robotics has made significant strides in engaging the youth of South Lake Tahoe with STEM education. The team has mentored a rookie FIRST Lego League (FLL) team that received the Rising Stars Award and successfully advanced to the Northern Nevada Championship. Additionally, GigaBite has organized STEM camps and workshops, along with community events that introduce young learners to robotics, engineering, and coding.
Expanding Impact Through Innovation
Now entering its fifth year in the FIRST Tech Challenge, GigaBite Robotics is focused on the season’s challenge, Decode. This initiative has encouraged the team to push their capabilities through data-driven design, the creation of custom CAD-built mechanisms, and an enhanced integration of software and hardware. Their approach emphasizes not only competition but also essential skills such as teamwork, real-world engineering, and problem-solving through a principle known as Gracious Professionalism.
GigaBite’s influence extends well beyond competitive events. The team has played an active role in mentoring younger teams and supporting other FTC teams across Nevada and internationally. Their volunteering efforts include participating in FTC and FLL competitions and hosting local scrimmages. Moreover, they have partnered with local schools and Lake Tahoe Community College to conduct STEM Discovery Nights, providing engaging educational experiences to over 500 students through hands-on STEM camps and outreach programs over three summers.
Supporting Future Innovators
To sustain and expand these initiatives, GigaBite Robotics is reaching out to the community for donations. Contributions will directly fund essential resources such as robot parts, 3D printing filament, registration and competition fees, tools, travel, and outreach programs. This support ensures that financial barriers do not prevent students from exploring STEM fields.
Donations can be made through the following link: GigaBite Robotics Donation Page. The team operates under the fiscal sponsorship of Hack Club, a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, with the registered EIN 81-2908499.
The community’s support is crucial in fostering curiosity, building confidence, and shaping a robust STEM future for South Lake Tahoe. GigaBite Robotics appreciates any contributions made towards inspiring local students and promoting innovation in the region.
