Music Tech Innovator Ryan Edwards Transforms Industry with Audoo
URGENT UPDATE: Ryan Edwards, a former drummer turned tech entrepreneur, is reshaping the music industry with his innovative startup, Audoo. Founded in 2018, the company aims to revolutionize how musicians receive royalties, ensuring they are fairly compensated for their work. With high-profile investors like Elton John and Björn Ulvaeus of ABBA, Audoo is gaining traction as a game changer in the sector.
Edwards, 40 and based in London, has made five significant career pivots, transitioning from music to retail and then to fintech before launching his own venture. “While my job titles have changed, one thing hasn’t: a belief in getting my head down and doing the hard work,” he shared in an exclusive interview.
The urgency of Edwards’ mission is clear: musicians often struggle to understand the royalties they earn, and Audoo aims to clarify this complex system. Inspired by a casual conversation about his own royalties, he developed a technology that tracks music played in commercial venues and provides detailed data to royalty-collection organizations. The company’s device, the Audoo Audio Meter, is now being adopted in various establishments, ensuring artists get the payments they deserve.
Edwards’ journey began in his early 20s as the drummer for an indie band that made the UK’s Top 10 Independent Singles Chart. Despite his musical success, he recognized the need for a stable career, leading him to work in retail and later at Visa Europe, where he learned the importance of being open to new opportunities.
After leaving Visa in 2016, he ventured into the fintech world, where he was inspired to create Audoo. “The idea for the business was amazing,” he stated, highlighting the potential impact of his technology on the music industry.
As the company gains momentum, Edwards emphasizes the importance of adaptability and continuous learning. “I reset my goals every few years,” he explains. “For me, it’s about never being boxed in.”
Audoo’s growth has been impressive, attracting notable investors and expanding its reach. The company’s mission resonates with many in the music community, as artists increasingly seek transparent solutions for their earnings.
What’s next? Audoo is poised for further expansion, and with a growing investor base, the startup is set to implement new features that could further streamline the royalty payment process.
In a world where many are seeking unconventional career paths, Edwards’ story serves as an inspiring example of how resilience and innovation can lead to transformative change. His journey from band life to CEO of a tech startup is a testament to the power of following one’s passions while embracing new challenges.
Stay tuned for updates as Audoo continues to disrupt the music industry, ensuring that artists receive their rightful earnings.
