Wright Twp. Appoints Sgt. Scott Rozitski as New Police Chief

BREAKING: Wright Township has appointed Sgt. Scott Rozitski as the new interim police chief during a special meeting held on December 29. Rozitski, a seasoned officer with 28 years of service, is set to be confirmed as the permanent chief at the township supervisors’ meeting on January 12.

This urgent appointment follows the retirement of Chief Royce Engler, who stepped down on December 31 after an impressive 47 years in law enforcement, including the last 13 years as chief. The township is emphasizing its commitment to local leadership by promoting from within.

Supervisor Paul Krzywicki expressed pride in Rozitski’s promotion, stating, “This decision honors the township’s tradition of developing and promoting leadership from within and reflects the professionalism and strength of our police department.” This move is pivotal for the community, reaffirming their dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of residents in one of Northeast Pennsylvania’s most desirable locales.

Rozitski began his law enforcement career in 1996 with the Warrior Run Borough Police Department and joined Wright Township as a part-time officer in 1997, advancing to full-time status in 1999. His expertise includes significant roles in major crime investigations, and he was promoted to Sergeant in 2012. Notably, he led the department to achieve Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation in 2024, marking it as the only accredited department in Mountain Top and one of just seven in Luzerne County.

With extensive training in homicide, child abuse, sexual assault, and cybercrime investigations, Rozitski is well-equipped for his new role. He is also a certified CVSA Voice Stress Examiner and has served as a crisis negotiator and narcotics investigator.

A native of Sugar Notch, Rozitski graduated from Wyoming Seminary and holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from King’s College. He has also completed advanced studies in Criminal Justice Leadership at the University of Virginia. A resident of Mountain Top since 1994, he is actively involved in the community, having coached various youth sports and contributing to Crestwood High School’s football program, which achieved two district championships and a state semifinal appearance in 2022.

In a statement regarding his new role, Rozitski said, “I’ve had the privilege of working under two outstanding chiefs and aim to incorporate their leadership qualities as I guide the department forward.” His vision includes developing officers into community leaders, ensuring public safety progress in Wright Township and the surrounding areas.
