Stolen Van Pursuit Ends Dramatically at Delaware Wawa
A police pursuit involving a stolen vehicle concluded dramatically at a Wawa convenience store in Delaware on December 30, 2025. The incident began when officers from the Lower Chichester Township Police Department tracked a reported stolen vehicle using their license plate reader system.
According to the police, the alert was issued at approximately 16:23 when the stolen vehicle, a white Mercedes-Benz work van, was spotted traveling westbound on Ridge Road near Market Street. Officers attempted to locate the vehicle amid heavy traffic. Visual contact was established as the van passed Blueball Avenue, continuing towards the Delaware state line.
With emergency lights activated, an officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop once traffic allowed. The driver, later identified as Riyad H. Hussein, did not comply and continued into Delaware. The vehicle eventually stopped at the intersection of Route 92 before entering the parking lot of a Wawa convenience store.
Upon arrival at the scene, a secondary officer assisted in conducting a felony traffic stop. Both Hussein and a passenger were removed from the vehicle. Due to jurisdictional issues, the Delaware State Police were called in and took Hussein into custody.
Hussein faced charges in Delaware to facilitate extradition back to Pennsylvania. After posting bail on the Delaware charge, he awaits a hearing for receiving stolen property in Pennsylvania. The passenger was checked by police and subsequently released at the scene.
The incident originated in the 1000 block of West Ridge Road in Linwood. All charges referenced are allegations, and any suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
This high-stakes chase highlights the effectiveness of modern policing technology and the collaboration between jurisdictions in responding to crime. For updates on incidents in Chester County and surrounding areas, follow local news outlets.
