Community Celebrates Life of Shirley Scott Simpson, 76, in Natchez
Shirley Scott Simpson, aged 76, passed away on December 26, 2025, in Natchez, leaving behind a legacy of education and community service. Funeral services are scheduled for January 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Melrose Church of Christ, with Dr. Montreal Greene officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Sunset View Memorial Park Cemetery, managed by West Gate Funeral Home.
A native of Natchez, Shirley was born on July 22, 1949, to Concerrilla and John Scott, Sr. She received her early education in the Natchez Public Schools and went on to pursue higher education at both Alcorn State University and Delta State University. Shirley dedicated her career to teaching at Natchez Public Schools, where she influenced many students over the years.
In addition to her commitment to education, Shirley had a passion for sewing, decorating, and travel. She cherished time spent with family, reflecting the vibrant connections she cultivated throughout her life.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Evelyn D. Scott Sims, and her brother John A. Scott, Jr.. She is survived by her two sons, Van T. Scott and Micheal Simpson, along with her brothers Paul Scott and Raymond Paige. Her sisters, including Marcella Brown, Willye B. Scott Robinson, Adell Dennis, Doris Jones, and Joyce Scott, also continue her legacy.
Shirley leaves behind a loving family of grandchildren: Van’trice Scott, Van’Nesia Scott, ZaKiya Coach, Miracle Simpson, MyKayla Simpson, Talia Simpson, Micheal Simpson, Jr., Maddie Simpson, Aubree Simpson, Morgan Simpson, and Amyah Simpson. She is also remembered by a wide circle of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly.
