LOS ANGELES – As top-seeded Indiana prepares for a crucial College Football Playoff matchup against Alabama, head coach Curt Cignetti has expressed concerns regarding his team’s preparation. Just one day before the game, which will take place at the esteemed Rose Bowl, Cignetti highlighted disruptions in their on-site training in Southern California.

“From a preparation standpoint, the last two days have been fairly disruptive with a travel day and then first practice on site,” Cignetti stated on Wednesday. He emphasized the urgency of addressing the “loose ends” he observes within the team’s preparations. The Hoosiers last played on December 6, 2023, when they secured a narrow 13-10 victory over Ohio State in the Big Ten championship. Cignetti noted that the extended break since that game posed additional challenges in simulating a regular game week.

“I didn’t think we had a great practice for travel day because we had to move everything up,” he explained, pointing out that players typically engage in a walkthrough on travel days. The head coach acknowledged that the first practice at the Rose Bowl did not meet his expectations, a sentiment he has shared regarding previous bowl trips. “We’ve never had a great practice, first day on site, ever,” Cignetti remarked. “It wasn’t a horrible practice, but it didn’t meet the standard. That’s why I feel the sense of urgency to get it right today.”

In contrast, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer indicated that his team has been focusing on adjusting to the altered schedule, prioritizing communication and attention to detail post-travel. “I thought it was good energy, and that’s what I really look for,” DeBoer noted. “We were stressing communication and just all of that. I thought they came with the right intention. That doesn’t mean it was perfectly crisp.”

The meeting between Indiana and Alabama on Thursday marks a pivotal moment in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals. The stakes are high as both teams aim for a spot in the next round of the competition, and preparation will be key for the Hoosiers as they face the Crimson Tide. Cignetti’s concerns reflect the broader challenges that playoff structures present, though he refrained from suggesting specific changes.

As the anticipation builds for the Rose Bowl Game, scheduled to kick off at 20:00 local time, players and coaches alike are aware that every detail matters in this high-stakes encounter. With the weight of expectations resting on their shoulders, Indiana will seek to refocus and deliver a performance that meets the high standards expected in the playoff arena.
