Waukesha Christmas Parade Unites Community in Healing, 300 Bobbleheads Distributed
UPDATE: The streets of downtown Waukesha were alive with holiday spirit as the city hosted its 62nd Christmas Parade on December 3, 2023. Thousands of spectators, estimated at over 10,000, gathered to witness the parade’s theme, “Jingle Bell Rock,” featuring vibrant floats, festive dancers, and local community groups spreading cheer.
This year’s parade held profound significance for many participants and attendees as the community continues to heal from the tragic events of the 2021 Christmas Parade. Tyler Pudleiner, who suffered severe injuries during that attack, took part in this year’s festivities through his project, Bobbleheads Bring Us Together. He distributed 300 bobbleheads wrapped as Christmas presents to spectators lining the route.
“I was run over and severely injured in the parade in 2021,” Pudleiner stated. “We’re out here to share a smile with kids who also go through traumatic situations.” His participation symbolizes progress in his ongoing healing journey. “Every year doing it and getting out is a step in the right direction,” he added.
The parade began with a solemn lantern walk, showcasing six lanterns in memory of each victim lost in the 2021 tragedy. This poignant ceremony aimed to light the path toward remembrance and continued healing for the community.
For lifelong Waukesha resident Mark Leipski, attending the parade was a way to cope with personal loss during his first Christmas without his mother. “I had a hard year this year. We lost our mom, so this is the first Christmas without her,” Leipski shared. “She loved Christmas. Best time of year for her.”
Parade attendee Jennifer Keller highlighted the essence of the event, saying, “It’s not about the presents, it’s about being present with everybody.” The annual event unites families, community groups, and local businesses, showcasing festive decorations, music, and performances that define the holiday spirit.
The Waukesha Christmas Parade serves not only as a celebration but also as a reminder of the strength and resilience of the community. As the night unfolded, attendees and participants alike celebrated the joy of togetherness, weaving their holiday traditions with healing.
With this year’s parade successfully completed, eyes are already on next year’s event, as the community continues to come together in support and remembrance.
