Winter Storm Hits Pennsylvania with Snow, Bitter Cold Expected
UPDATE: A winter storm is sweeping through parts of Pennsylvania today, bringing light snow and frigid temperatures just as winter officially begins at 10:03 a.m. on December 21. Residents in Warren and McKean counties should prepare for 1-2 inches of snow this afternoon into the evening, creating potentially hazardous conditions on the roads.
As of now, the snow is expected to be most concentrated along the Allegheny Front, with accumulations generally under an inch across most of the affected areas outside the northwestern corner of the state. Most of central Pennsylvania will remain shrouded in clouds, with temperatures hovering below freezing, creating an icy scenario for commuters.
Temperatures are set to plunge further on Monday night, dropping into the single digits and low teens across the region. The National Weather Service is urging residents to take precautions against the cold, particularly by protecting vulnerable pipes and ensuring adequate home heating.
In addition, an air quality alert was issued and remains in effect until midnight Monday for Dauphin, Lebanon, Cumberland, York, and Lancaster counties, posing further health risks to the community.
Looking ahead, high pressure is expected to bring dry conditions on Monday before another weather system is projected to brush the northern tier of Pennsylvania on Tuesday, potentially delivering additional light snow. The weather pattern remains highly active this week, with several clipper systems anticipated, offering further chances for winter precipitation from Wednesday into the weekend.
Meteorologists are closely monitoring models that suggest a more developed storm could impact the Mid-Atlantic region by Friday. This developing situation warrants attention, as winter weather conditions can change rapidly.
Stay tuned for the latest updates as this winter storm unfolds. Ensure you stay informed and prepared as conditions evolve throughout Pennsylvania.
