URGENT UPDATE: The 2025-26 wrestling season is kicking off with teams across the Front Range ramping up for competition as they head toward the 5A state tournament in February. Coaches and athletes are confirming their teams’ ambitions to improve on last year’s performances and secure top placements.

The Broomfield Eagles, under Coach Jimmy Zechmann, are looking to bounce back after finishing 16th last season. With six returning state qualifiers including senior standout Nick Penfold (157 lbs, ranked No. 4), the Eagles are determined to break into the top 10 at Ball Arena. “We hope to build on our league and regional runner-up finishes,” Zechmann stated.

Meanwhile, the Boulder Panthers aim for a stronger showing this year. Coach William Leboeuf highlights senior captains Isaac Wing (165 lbs, No. 13) and Alex Smith (190 lbs) as pivotal to the team’s success. Their preparation over the summer has set promising expectations for the upcoming matches.

The Centaurus Warriors, led by Coach Arturo Mata, qualified two wrestlers last year and are gearing up for more. With strong performers like Aaron Aldama (190 lbs) leading by example, the Warriors emphasize hard work and teamwork as they strive for success.

In Erie, the Erie Tigers are determined to capitalize on their recent successes, having placed 10th as a team last season with two state qualifiers. Coach Joe Ferrera is optimistic about returning athletes like Tyler Muir (157 lbs, No. 6) and Wyatt Walston (285 lbs, No. 3) helping to maintain their competitive edge.

The Holy Family Tigers are looking to make waves in the 3A division. With a team that tied for ninth at state and boasts three returning state placers, Coach Ernie Derrera is confident in their potential to secure a top-three finish this February.

Additionally, the Mead Mavericks are keen to make a mark this year, returning senior Morgan McDonald after a shoulder injury sidelined her last season. With a solid group of returning qualifiers, they aim to rise in the rankings.

As the season progresses, watch for updates on match results and rankings as these teams strive for glory at the state tournament. Fans are encouraged to support their local wrestlers as they wrestle for pride and recognition in the upcoming weeks.
