Warriors’ Stephen Curry to Miss Key Road Trip with Injury
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry will not join the team on their upcoming three-game road trip due to a left thigh contusion. This injury extends his absence for at least three more games, impacting the Warriors as they face off against the Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Chicago Bulls.
Curry’s condition will be reassessed officially on Thursday, but Warriors coach Steve Kerr has indicated that Curry is a “long shot” to return by the weekend. Following discussions with Curry and Rick Celebrini, the team’s lead medical decision-maker, the decision was made for Curry to remain in the San Francisco Bay Area for treatment. The injury occurred last Wednesday during a home game against the Houston Rockets, forcing him to miss at least five games in total.
Kerr expressed optimism regarding Curry’s recovery, suggesting he could return for the Warriors’ home game on December 12, 2023 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The team will enjoy a four-day break following the road trip, allowing for two practices before their next match.
Meanwhile, the Warriors are also uncertain about the availability of their second star, Jimmy Butler, as they open the road trip against the 76ers. Butler was sidelined during the second half of their recent game against the Oklahoma City Thunder due to a sore left knee. Kerr revealed he was unaware of Butler’s injury until late in the game, which affected team strategy. Butler had been listed as questionable prior to the game due to a glute contusion and has also dealt with ankle and back issues early in the season.
The Warriors currently hold an 11-11 record after 22 games, struggling to find consistency. In their recent matchup against the Thunder, the team faced a significant setback, trailing by as much as 22 points before staging a surprising comeback. Despite the effort, led in part by Seth Curry scoring 14 points in 14 minutes off the bench during his debut, the defending champions ultimately fell short. Reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 38 points, pushing their record to an impressive 21-1 and leaving the Warriors reeling from a disappointing 2-3 homestand.
As the Warriors prepare for this critical road trip, the absence of both Curry and potentially Butler raises concerns about their ability to compete effectively against formidable opponents. The team will need to rally and find strength in their remaining roster to navigate these upcoming challenges.
