Hugh Jackman Thrills 200 Fans at ‘Song Sung Blue’ Premiere in Waukesha
UPDATE: More than 200 fans flocked to the Marcus Majestic Cinema in Brookfield, Wisconsin, last night for the highly anticipated premiere of “Song Sung Blue,” featuring Hollywood superstar Hugh Jackman and acclaimed director Craig Brewer. This special screening took place on July 18, 2023, and was a night filled with nostalgia and excitement.
The evening kicked off with a lively reception, where attendees enjoyed live Neil Diamond tunes performed by local artist Kevin Kamin and indulged in complimentary Kopp’s “Song Sung Blueberry” frozen custard. “I’ve been playing it all my life, so I’m super excited to do this for the opening of the show,” Kamin expressed, setting the perfect atmosphere for the night.
“Song Sung Blue” tells the heartwarming story of a Milwaukee couple who dedicated their lives to performing Neil Diamond tribute music. For many attendees, this screening was more than just entertainment; it evoked cherished memories. “I saw Lightning and Thunder as a little girl at the state fair, and it was the first cassette I bought with allowance money,” shared Jamie Hardt from Oconomowoc. “This is my childhood coming to life right here.”
As the clock struck 8 p.m., Greg Marcus, CEO of Marcus Corporation, joined Jackman and Brewer on stage to welcome the enthusiastic crowd. “It’s awesome having him here, supporting the film. And it’s an important film. It’s about Milwaukee. It’s the kind of film people should see together with other people,” Marcus stated, underscoring the film’s significance to the local community.
Jackman, in his heartfelt remarks, praised the spirit of Milwaukee and its beloved custard. “Oh, that Kopp’s custard,” he chuckled, “You guys are incredible. The people of Milwaukee are incredible, and in many ways, this story is a celebration of this place and the people that populate this place.”
The premiere not only celebrated the film but also fostered connections among fans, many of whom shared their love for Neil Diamond’s music. A mother-daughter duo, Elizabeth Bagley and Cmille Spella, traveled from Sussex and Brookfield, respectively, to enjoy the event. “We are enjoying the music of our lives. We grew up with the music,” Bagley remarked, highlighting the emotional resonance of the event.
This premiere of “Song Sung Blue” marks a significant cultural moment for Milwaukee, showcasing local talent and bringing together community members through the universal language of music. As fans left the cinema, they carried with them not just memories of a special evening but also a renewed appreciation for the power of stories rooted in local culture.
