Skateboarder Terry Kennedy Set for Early Release on New Year’s Eve

UPDATE: Famed skateboarder Terry Kennedy is set to be released from prison on December 31, 2025, just in time for New Year’s Eve celebrations. The Illinois Department of Corrections confirmed that Kennedy, 40, will walk free earlier than scheduled due to having received sentence credit for good behavior.

Kennedy has been behind bars serving a 5-year prison sentence for an assault that tragically resulted in the death of fellow skater Josiah Kassahun. Authorities report that Kennedy will remain on supervised release until June 30, 2026, when he is expected to be fully discharged.

The incident that led to Kennedy’s conviction occurred on July 27, 2021Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. Prosecutors stated that during a heated moment, Kennedy punched Kassahun, causing him to fall and suffer fatal injuries.
