Hedge Funds Surge in November: Citadel, Balyasny, ExodusPoint Shine
UPDATE: Major hedge funds including Citadel, Balyasny, and ExodusPoint reported impressive gains in November 2025, despite a turbulent equities market. The flagship Wellington fund from Citadel, founded by billionaire Ken Griffin, climbed 1.4% for the month, marking a significant year-to-date return of 8.3%.
Investors in these hedge funds are celebrating as they navigated through a choppy market. The S&P 500 index managed a mere 0.1% gain in November, thanks to an early-month sell-off of hot tech stocks, but these hedge funds outperformed expectations. Citadel’s Tactical Trading fund, which integrates quantitative strategies with human stock-pickers, soared 16.3% year-to-date after a 2.6% gain last month.
The $30 billion Balyasny fund continued its strong trajectory, achieving a 2.5% increase in November, bringing its year-to-date performance to 15.3%. Meanwhile, ExodusPoint pushed its total returns to 15.6% with a 1.2% bump this month.
In a month marked by volatility, the resilience of these hedge funds stands out. The earlier tech sell-off was reversed partially by strong earnings from chipmaker Nvidia and robust iPhone sales by Apple, which contributed to the S&P’s recovery.
As hedge funds continue to outperform the S&P 500, industry analysts are keenly observing the performance of other major players.
“We expect more performance figures to emerge soon,”
said a source close to the funds.
Investors should stay tuned for updates as more data is released regarding fund performance. The following funds reported their November and year-to-date performances:
– Boothbay: 0.6% (16.4%)
– AQR Apex: 0.4% (16.2%)
– Dymon Asia: 1.1% (16%)
– ExodusPoint: 1.2% (15.6%)
– Balyasny: 2.5% (15.3%)
– Walleye: 1.6% (13.1%)
– Pinpoint Asset Management: -1% (10.4%)
– Schonfeld Partners: 1.4% (10%)
– LMR: 1.6% (8.9%)
– Citadel Wellington: 1.4% (8.3%)
As the year progresses, the performance of these hedge funds remains a focal point for investors and market watchers alike. The ongoing developments in hedge fund strategies and market reactions will be critical in shaping future investment decisions.
