Chisora and Whyte Eye December Trilogy Fight in Manchester
Derek Chisora and Dillian Whyte are in discussions for a highly anticipated trilogy fight scheduled for December 13, 2023, at Co-op Live in Manchester. Both fighters have expressed their eagerness to face off once again, but Chisora emphasized the importance of finalizing the contract terms first.
“I want the fight, but the paperwork has to be right,” Chisora stated. He underscored that while he is committed to making the match happen, he will not proceed until he is satisfied with the contractual details. “I guarantee you the fight’s going to be amazing. Dillian’s got two over me. The fight will happen in December, 100 per cent, but it’s going to be an explosive fight.”
In response, Whyte echoed Chisora’s sentiment, stating, “I say let’s go, whatever. I take any fight on regardless. I just want to fight. I love fighting.” This rivalry, which began in 2016, has produced two thrilling encounters, with Whyte winning both by split decision and knockout.
Background of the Rivalry
Their first bout took place in December 2016 in Manchester, where Chisora made headlines by throwing a table at Whyte during the pre-fight press conference. The match itself was a nail-biter, ending in a split decision that favored Whyte. A rematch followed in December 2018 at The O2, where Chisora was leading on two judges’ scorecards before Whyte delivered a knockout blow in the tenth round.
Since their last encounter, both fighters have continued to engage in high-profile bouts. Whyte challenged Tyson Fury for the WBC heavyweight world title at Wembley Stadium in 2022 but faced a setback this summer when he was stopped by rising star Moses Itauma in the first round in Riyadh.
Chisora, on the other hand, has faced top-tier opponents including Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk, and Joseph Parker twice. He has recently seen success, winning his last three fights against notable contenders such as Joe Joyce and Otto Wallin.
Future Implications
If the December fight materializes, it promises to be a significant event in the boxing calendar, drawing considerable attention from fans and analysts alike. The stakes are high, not just for Chisora and Whyte, but also for their respective careers as they seek to position themselves for future title opportunities.
As negotiations continue, fans eagerly await confirmation of the matchup, hoping that both fighters can finalize the details that will allow this trilogy to take place. Given their history, expectations for an exciting and competitive bout are high, making it a must-watch event for boxing enthusiasts.
