Falcons Hopeful for Penix’s Return Against Patriots on Sunday
The Atlanta Falcons are optimistic that quarterback Michael Penix Jr. will return to the field this Sunday after missing last week’s game due to a bone bruise in his left knee. Head coach Raheem Morris confirmed that both Penix and wide receiver Drake London, who was sidelined with a hip injury, are classified as day-to-day as they prepare for their matchup against the New England Patriots.
Penix’s Progress and Team Dynamics
During a press conference, Morris expressed confidence in Penix’s recovery, noting that he felt good during Wednesday’s practice and appeared to be “trending in the right direction.” The coach emphasized the importance of monitoring Penix’s performance in practice to assess his readiness for the game. “Michael is in the building, obviously in meetings,” Morris stated. “We’ll get a chance to get a feel for what he can do in practice, if he can do anything. He feels better than he did last week, so I feel really good about him.”
Penix had initially planned to play in the previous game against the Miami Dolphins, but his condition deteriorated by the end of the week, leading to his absence. Backup quarterback Kirk Cousins stepped in, completing 21 of 31 passes for 173 yards, but the offense struggled, finishing with only 213 total yards. Reflecting on his decision to sit out, Penix remarked, “I don’t feel like me being out there would have helped the team. I didn’t feel like I could do what I needed to do to help my team win.”
London’s Status and Team Outlook
Drake London currently leads the Falcons with 469 receiving yards this season. Morris provided an update on London’s condition, stating that he is also feeling good and plans to practice ahead of the game against the Patriots. “Drake is in the building, feels good, planning on practicing,” Morris noted. “Get a chance to look at him moving around a little bit today.”
As the Falcons gear up for this crucial matchup, the potential return of both Penix and London could significantly impact their offensive strategy. With the team looking to rebound from last week’s loss, the health of these key players will be closely monitored as they approach the game on Sunday.
This update follows contributions from ESPN’s Marc Raimondi and The Associated Press, highlighting the ongoing developments within the Falcons’ roster and preparations for the NFL season.
