King Charles is reportedly set to strip his brother, Prince Andrew, of his last honorary military rank, marking a significant step in the former royal’s fall from grace. John Healey, the United Kingdom’s Defence Secretary, confirmed on Sunday that a process is underway to remove Andrew’s title as honorary vice admiral of the Royal Navy. This move follows a series of losses for Andrew, who was previously forced to relinquish other military positions due to scandals surrounding his alleged connections to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein.

In a conversation with Sky News, Healey stated, “We’ve seen Andrew surrender the military positions that he’s had, and we’re looking now at the one remaining position he has, which is the honorary vice admiral position.” He further elaborated in an interview with the BBC, indicating that King Charles has expressed a desire for this action. “This is a move that’s right, it’s a move the king has indicated we should take, and we’re working on that at the moment,” Healey said.

Andrew has a history of service in the Royal Navy, having spent 22 years within the ranks. He notably served as a helicopter pilot during the Falklands War and commanded a mine countermeasures vessel. However, at 65 years old, he faces a future as a private citizen, stripped of his titles following discussions with the royal family. Along with the loss of his title as the Duke of York, he will no longer be referred to as “Prince,” adopting the name Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

The former prince’s situation worsened following a civil case of sexual abuse filed in the United States by Epstein trafficking victim Virginia Giuffre. In her memoir, published posthumously last month, Giuffre accused Andrew of sexual encounters with her when she was a teenager, a claim he has consistently denied. The fallout from these allegations led to Andrew’s removal of the title His Royal Highness and further damage to his public standing.

Andrew’s living arrangements are also set to change. He has been given three months to vacate the 30-room Royal Lodge, a property he shares with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson. This latest development reflects the ongoing fallout from his controversial past and the royal family’s efforts to distance themselves from his actions.

As the situation evolves, the ramifications of these decisions will likely continue to reverberate within the royal family and beyond, affecting Andrew’s public image and personal life in profound ways.
