Free Parking Permits to Launch in Boca Grande by Mid-November

Lee County is set to introduce free parking permits, including decals and placards, in Boca Grande by mid-November 2023. The distribution of these permits will occur at various locations, which have yet to be announced. According to Betsy Clayton, the Communications Director for Lee County, details regarding the availability of these parking permits will be communicated to the public soon.
The implementation of this new parking initiative comes as part of a broader effort to regulate parking on the island. The Department of Transportation is currently in the process of installing necessary signage as mandated by the new parking ordinance. This ordinance requires the placement of 441 signposts displaying a total of 751 signs throughout Boca Grande. Installation began on October 16, 2023, and is expected to be completed by late November.
In addition to the new signage, the enforcement of parking regulations will be managed by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Clayton noted that enforcement will begin only once all signs are installed and the decals and placards are made available. Until that time, no specific enforcement date has been established.
As part of the preparation for this initiative, any existing signs that conflict with the new parking plan will be removed to ensure clarity and compliance with the updated regulations. The efforts by Lee County aim to improve the parking situation in Boca Grande, providing residents and visitors with a structured approach to parking management.
Further updates regarding the locations and distribution process of the parking permits will be shared by the county as they become available. The community is encouraged to stay informed about these developments to ensure a smooth transition to the new parking system.
