Urgent Recall: Salmonella Risk Prompts Action on 2 Egg Brands

UPDATE: A critical recall has expanded to include two brands of eggs due to potential salmonella contamination, sparking health concerns among consumers. The latest notification from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirms that both Kenz Henz and Black Sheep Company eggs may pose serious health risks.
The contamination has been traced back to a facility operated by Black Sheep Egg Company in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. During inspections, the FDA discovered that 40 samples tested positive for seven different strains of salmonella, which can lead to severe gastrointestinal issues, including diarrhea, stomach cramps, and even persistent fever.
While no illnesses have been reported thus far, health officials warn that vulnerable populations—such as young children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems—are at heightened risk for serious complications.
The FDA has identified the specific egg cartons involved in the recall. Consumers should look for the following products in their refrigerators:
– **Kenz Henz**: 12-count packages of “Grade AA Large Pasture Raised” eggs with UPC code 86949400030. The affected cartons bear Julian dates from 241 (August 30) to 244 (September 2), and 246 (September 4) to 247 (September 5), with best by dates ranging from 10/11 to 10/17.
– **Black Sheep Company**: 12- and 18-count cartons of “Free Range Large Grade A Brown Eggs” with best by dates from 8/22/2025 through 10/31/2025. UPC codes include 860010568507 and 860010568538.
Consumers nationwide are urged to check their homes for these recalled eggs. If found, they should either dispose of them or return them to the store for a refund. The FDA has stated it will provide updates if additional brands are implicated in this ongoing investigation.
With the growing concern surrounding food safety, it is imperative that consumers remain vigilant and informed. The potential health risks associated with salmonella are significant, particularly for those with existing health issues. Stay tuned for further updates as this urgent situation develops, and prioritize checking your refrigerator to ensure your family’s safety.
