The Strathmore High volleyball team has been awarded the No. 1 seed in the Central Section Division V playoffs, as announced on Friday. The Spartans concluded their regular season with an impressive record of 23-7, securing the East Sequoia League title with a perfect 8-0 record.

Playoff matches are set to begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2023. Strathmore will face the No. 16 seed, Ridgecrest, in their opening game. Should they emerge victorious, the Spartans will host either No. 8 California City or No. 9 West on Thursday, October 30. The quarterfinals will continue on November 4, followed by the semifinals on November 6, when the championship match will also take place.

Strathmore’s playoff journey could see them hosting all their matches, including the championship contest, as long as they keep winning. Additional teams on Strathmore’s side of the bracket include No. 4 Morro Bay, No. 5 Cabrillo, No. 12 Coalinga, and No. 13 Highland. Liberty Madera holds the No. 2 seed in Division V, adding further competition to the playoffs.

In Division II, Monache High School received the No. 13 seed and is set to travel to No. 4 Frontier on Tuesday. The Marauders, who finished the season with a 15-15-1 record and third in the East Yosemite League at 6-4, will face a challenging road ahead. A win would see them advance to play either No. 5 Mission College Prep or No. 12 Redwood in the quarterfinals.

Porterville High School has been designated the No. 7 seed in Division III and will host No. 10 Kingsburg. This match is also scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Sharman Gym. If successful, Porterville would likely face No. 2 Bullard in the quarterfinals on Thursday, October 30.

Meanwhile, Summit Collegiate High School is entering the playoffs as the No. 12 seed in Division VI. They will play at No. 5 Woodlake on Tuesday in a rematch after Woodlake won both encounters earlier this season. Should Summit win, they would advance to face No. 4 McLane or host No. 13 Legacy Christian in the quarterfinals.

In addition to the volleyball playoffs, Strathmore’s girls’ tennis team has also made its mark by securing the No. 4 seed in Division IV. They will host No. 13 Matlida Torres on Tuesday at 3 p.m.. The quarterfinals for girls’ tennis will take place on October 30, with semifinals scheduled for November 4 and championship matches to be held on November 12.

Monache’s girls’ tennis team has earned the No. 10 seed and will travel to No. 7 Lemoore on Tuesday. A victory would allow them to compete against No. 2 Avenal or host No. 15 South in the quarterfinals.

Porterville’s girls’ tennis team is positioned as the No. 11 seed in Division III and will face No. 6 Lompoc. Should they win, Porterville could either travel to No. 3 Woodlake or host No. 14 Mt. Whitney in the next round.

As the playoffs unfold, Strathmore and its local rivals are poised to make significant strides in their respective competitions, aiming for championship glory.
