Dallin H. Oaks Assumes Leadership of Latter-day Saints Church

Dallin H. Oaks has been named the 18th President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, following the passing of President Russell M. Nelson on September 27, 2025. The announcement was made during a press conference held by the church earlier today, marking a significant moment in its leadership history.
In a heartfelt reflection, Oaks’ daughter, Jenny Oaks Baker, a well-known violinist and music producer, shared her thoughts on her father’s faith and the role he has played in her life. Baker, who has performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center, stated that she learned of her father’s new position at the same time as the public, despite expectations based on his long-standing seniority within the church.
Reflections on Faith and Leadership
“I didn’t even know when the press conference would be,” Baker admitted. “We knew, of course, with the seniority and the way that things work in the church, so it was an expected occurrence. But I’m still processing what this means.” She expressed hope to support her father and honor her commitments to God as he embarks on this new chapter.
Baker emphasized that her father’s call to lead the church is a continuation of his lifelong dedication to faith. “I was nine years old when my dad was called to be an apostle, so most of my memories have been of him in this position,” she noted. “I don’t know how things will change now that he’s the prophet, but I know that my dad has always put God first and encouraged his family to do the same.”
Since 1984, Dallin H. Oaks has been a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Throughout his tenure, he has consistently emphasized the importance of his religious beliefs and their role in guiding his actions. Baker remarked on his integrity as a leader: “He is just completely trustworthy and really always tries to do what’s right. He doesn’t have a personal agenda. He just wants to do what God would have him do.”
A Legacy of Leadership and Trust
As the church embraces this new leadership era, Baker shared her gratitude for the guidance of prophets in her life. “I’m so grateful for all the prophets that I’ve been able to follow throughout my life, and I’m just so grateful that we do have a prophet on this earth today that we can follow and trust, and everything will work out,” she said.
The appointment of Oaks as president signifies a pivotal moment not only for the church but also for its followers, who look to their leaders for spiritual guidance and direction. As the church moves forward under Oaks’ leadership, the focus remains on faith, integrity, and the commitment to serve God and the community.
