In a notable recognition during Filipino American Heritage Month, the Los Angeles City Council honored ABC7’s Tony Cabrera as a distinguished honoree. This acknowledgment highlights Cabrera’s significant contributions to the local Filipino community through his role as a prominent morning anchor at ABC7 Eyewitness News.
Recognition from City Officials
The honor was presented by Ysabel Jurado, the first Filipino American to serve on the Los Angeles City Council. Jurado praised Cabrera’s work and the positive impact he has had on the community. The City Council, along with the Los Angeles Filipino Association of City Employees, collectively recognized Cabrera for his outstanding achievements in journalism and community engagement.
Throughout his career, Cabrera has held various roles at ABC7, including weathercaster, reporter, and entertainment correspondent. His versatility and dedication to his craft have endeared him to viewers and earned him a respected position within the broadcasting industry.
A Journey Through Broadcasting
Born and raised in San Jose, California, Cabrera’s journey in broadcasting began with a degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Southern California. He further honed his skills by obtaining certification as a meteorologist through the Broadcast and Operational Meteorology Program at Mississippi State University.
Before joining ABC7, Cabrera worked at various television stations across the United States, including locations in Fresno, Santa Barbara, Tucson, and Toledo.
