Demand for Dual Monitors Surges as Productivity Boosts Workflows

The trend of using multiple monitors in professional settings is on the rise, with many employees now opting for two or more displays at their desks. A recent report highlights that businesses are increasingly recognizing the productivity benefits of dual-monitor setups, extending this practice even to roles traditionally deemed non-technical.
Research suggests that utilizing multiple screens enhances multitasking capabilities and improves efficiency. As a result, many companies have begun to standardize dual monitors for their employees, acknowledging the positive impact on workflow and error reduction. This shift indicates a broader acceptance of technology as a key factor in workplace productivity.
While some individuals, like myself, may prefer a single, smaller screen—often opting for a laptop or even a smartphone—data shows that larger monitors are becoming the norm. In fact, the most popular monitors sold in the United States are typically sized at 24 or 27 inches. This preference raises questions about the balance between personal comfort and the demands of modern work environments.
Seeing the growing popularity of standalone smart monitors, I decided to test a couple of models that are gaining traction in the market. These devices offer much more than mere screen extensions for computers.
Exploring the LG Smart Monitor Swing
One noteworthy model is the LG Smart Monitor Swing, priced at $1,300. This monitor features a 32-inch 4K UHD touchscreen and a unique stand on wheels, allowing for easy mobility within an office or home setting. Although its weight makes it more suitable for stationary use on one floor, the flexibility it offers for ergonomic adjustments is commendable.
The display quality is impressive, with vibrant colors and ample screen space for multitasking. It also intelligently adjusts brightness based on the surrounding light conditions, enhancing user comfort. The LG Smart Monitor includes essential connectivity options like USB-C and HDMI ports, but I found that mirroring my phone screen was a convenient feature.
With LG’s webOS platform, users can access streaming services such as LG TV channels, Pluto TV, Netflix, and others without needing an external device. Additionally, the built-in speakers deliver satisfactory sound quality, making it suitable for various activities, from watching movies to engaging in digital art.
Samsung’s Smart Monitor M9: A Gamer’s Delight
Another standout is the Samsung Smart Monitor M9, retailing at $1,600. This model boasts a 32-inch 4K QD-OLED display, known for its stunning color accuracy and deep contrast ratios. Gamers and movie enthusiasts will appreciate the monitor’s fast 165Hz refresh rate and minimal 0.03ms response time, which ensure smooth and fluid visuals.
The M9 also integrates smart TV capabilities, allowing direct access to popular streaming apps. Users must create a Samsung account to utilize these features, but the process is straightforward. Its glare-free surface contributes to an enjoyable viewing experience, while the adjustable stand allows for customizable angles, enhancing comfort during long use.
Both monitors reflect a significant shift in consumer preferences towards larger, multifunctional displays. While I personally may still lean towards a single smaller screen, the features and capabilities of these smart monitors illustrate why many are choosing to embrace a dual-monitor setup.
In conclusion, the increasing demand for dual monitors signifies a broader trend in workplace technology, where enhanced productivity and comfort are paramount. As more businesses adopt these tools, individuals may find themselves reevaluating their own workspace setups to keep pace with these advancements.
