Community Mourns the Loss of Wade Gluyas, 66, in California

Wade Alexander Gluyas, a beloved member of his community, passed away on October 20, 2024, at the age of 66, following a prolonged battle with kidney and liver failure. Born on August 14, 1958, in Santa Ana, California, Wade was the only son of George and Bette Gluyas. His kind spirit and generous nature left a lasting impact on those who knew him.

Wade graduated from Rancho Alamitos High School and later attended ITT Technical School, along with various community college classes, driven by a passion for learning. Known for his warm smile and infectious laughter, Wade was often described as a gentle giant. His compassion was evident in his willingness to help others, often giving away what little he had to support those in need.

Despite his generous heart, Wade faced challenges due to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), which sometimes affected his relationships. His intentions, often misinterpreted, led to misunderstandings. Nevertheless, he remained committed to looking out for what he affectionately referred to as “critters,” “old geezers,” and “the little tikes.”

Wade found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed practical jokes with his sister, Becky, and shared memorable fishing trips with his father and sister, Leslie. Alongside his childhood friend, Chris, he dreamt of adventures in far-off places like Alaska, though these plans remained unfulfilled. Wade’s imagination also extended to science and culinary creations, which often featured unusual combinations of ingredients, including sour cream, hot sauce, and mayonnaise.

Family was central to Wade’s life. He lived closely with his mother, sister, and nephew, taking on the responsibility of running errands and caring for his parents until their passing in 2005. After the loss of his sister Becky, Wade moved in with his sister Beth and her husband Gary in Visalia, California. Despite the challenges posed by his OCD, the family shared a strong bond, providing support through Wade’s illness.

Wade’s courageous battle with his health issues showcased his character. Even in his final days, he expressed concern for his loved ones and chose to donate his organs to the Donor Network, advocating for organ donation despite the discomfort it may invoke. His selflessness and desire to help others will be remembered fondly.

Wade Gluyas will be interred alongside his parents and sister in Murrieta Valley Cemetery, Murrieta, California. A graveside service is scheduled for November 3, 2024, at 13:00. His absence will be deeply felt, and many believe that while the world is dimmer without him, heaven has gained a bright soul.
