A group of shamans in Lima, Peru, conducted an annual ritual on December 4, 2023, making predictions for the year ahead. This year, they forecast significant geopolitical changes, including the potential removal of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro from office, alongside the continuation of global conflicts such as the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The shamans, dressed in traditional Andean attire, gathered on La Herradura beach in the Miraflores district. During the ceremony, Ana María Simeón, one of the shamans, expressed confidence that President Maduro would be ousted, suggesting that former U.S. President Donald Trump could play a role in this development. “We have asked for Maduro to leave, to retire,” she stated, adding that they visualized this outcome occurring in the coming year.

The group has a varied history of predictions. Last year, they anticipated a potential “nuclear war” between Israel and Gaza, a scenario that has not materialized as a ceasefire currently holds. In a notable success, they accurately predicted the death of former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori. Fujimori passed away from cancer in September 2024 at the age of 86, just under a year after the shamans’ warning.

Prior to the predictions, the shamans engaged in traditional practices, consuming hallucinogenic brews made from native plants, including Ayahuasca and the San Pedro cactus. These substances are believed to enhance their ability to foresee future events.

During the ritual, they placed offerings of yellow flowers, coca leaves, and other symbolic items on the beach to invoke positive energy for the upcoming year. They danced and played ancestral instruments, while also calling for peace in the Middle East and an end to the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. The ceremony included prayers to deities, along with flowers and incense, aimed at encouraging world leaders to make wise decisions.

In addition to political forecasts, the shamans also predicted natural disasters, including earthquakes and other climatic phenomena. Their annual ceremonies serve as a blend of spirituality and cultural tradition, reflecting the hopes of the participants for a more peaceful and stable world in the year to come.
