Police Identify Baby Boy Found Dead in 1981, Seek Public Help

BREAKING: After more than 40 years, the San Bruno Police Department has identified a newborn boy found dead in 1981 at Buckeye Park, and authorities are urgently seeking the public’s help to advance the investigation into this chilling cold case.
On Tuesday, November 7, 2023, police announced the identification of the baby’s family through groundbreaking forensic genealogy, a revolutionary investigative technology now available to law enforcement. The department collaborated with the Texas Department of Public Safety, forensic partners, and specialized labs to make this significant breakthrough.
Authorities did not disclose the names of the infant’s parents but emphasized that this identification marks a critical step forward in the pursuit of justice. In a statement shared on social media, police urged the community to assist in the ongoing investigation:
“This identification represents a major step forward in the case and has renewed efforts to bring this case to justice.”
The tragic discovery of the newborn occurred on November 11, 1981, at around 4 p.m. when the baby was found inside a garbage can at Buckeye Park. Investigators revealed the infant had been dead for only a few hours, succumbing to strangulation and severe head injuries. Authorities believe he was placed in the receptacle sometime after 11 a.m. that day.
Despite exhaustive efforts to solve this horrific crime, the identity of the child remained a mystery for decades. Investigators from the original case determined that the infant had Type O-positive blood and discovered reddish brown human hair and black dog hair on the sock used to strangle him. Unfortunately, these leads did not lead to any breakthroughs at the time.
As the San Bruno Police Department continues to investigate, they are asking anyone with information regarding this case to step forward. Tips can be submitted directly to the department at 650-616-7100 or via email at [email protected].
This identification is not only a pivotal moment for law enforcement but also a poignant reminder of the ongoing quest for justice for victims whose stories remain untold. Stay tuned for further updates as this developing story unfolds.
