As of Thursday morning, October 23, 2025, lines stretched down the block, showcasing the immense demand for the luxury brand’s exclusive offerings.
The sale, which began at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, drew a dedicated crowd of fashion enthusiasts willing to pay for line-sitters, with some spending hundreds to hold their place. Gigi Principe, who had been waiting for over nine hours, shared that many of the early arrivals were hired to secure spots for others, emphasizing the lengths to which fans of the brand will go.
The Row, co-founded by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, is known for its minimalist and label-free aesthetic, with items like $550 cotton tees and $6,000 bags epitomizing the “quiet luxury” trend that has captivated high-end fashion consumers. The sample sale offers markdowns of up to 75%, but even those discounts are not enough for some shoppers, like Principe, who stated, “It’s way too expensive,” despite the allure of the brand.
On the sidewalk, the atmosphere was a mix of excitement and camaraderie. Some lined up with coffee, while others chatted and shared snacks. Notably, the owner of Same Ole Line Dudes, Robert Samuel, described the event as “the Super Bowl of all sample sales,” highlighting the booming business of professional line-sitting. Samuel reported having 61 bookings on the first day and expects a busy second day with 35 reservations. Customers pay sitters $25 per hour, plus additional fees for early arrivals and weather conditions.
The demand for The Row’s items remains strong, despite a broader slowdown in the luxury market, according to McKinsey’s State of Luxury report. While shoppers are increasingly favoring experiences over products, the desire for exclusive clothing is still thriving, especially among affluent consumers in Manhattan.
The fervor didn’t stop at the line. Some shoppers, like a personal shopper assisting international clients, reported spending $1,619 on items that would retail for nearly $6,500. As one shopper noted, “People really want quiet luxury.” This sentiment reflects a growing movement towards timeless, well-crafted pieces devoid of ostentation.
The Row’s sale is generating buzz on social media, with videos showcasing massive hauls and the unique shopping experience inside the sale, where phones are prohibited, and dressing rooms are communal. This exclusivity adds to the allure, fueling interest among those who follow the luxury brand.
As the sale continues into its second day, shoppers are not only seeking high-quality items but are also willing to pay for the experience of being part of this exclusive event. One woman, who opted for anonymity, shared that her three bags and two coats from the previous day were “worth the splurge,” despite her reluctance to disclose the hefty price.
As the doors open at 9 a.m. on Thursday, anticipation remains high. Shoppers are now faced with the choice of indulging in luxury or dismissing the frenzy as excessive. With many already planning their next visits, the “quiet luxury” movement shows no signs of slowing down.
