Blue Jays Shock Dodgers 6-2, Even World Series at 2-2
UPDATE: In a stunning turn of events, the Toronto Blue Jays decisively defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-2 in Game 4 of the World Series, leveling the series at two games each. The pivotal match took place at Dodger Stadium on October 24, 2023, just hours after the Blue Jays absorbed a devastating 18-inning loss in Game 3.
The energy in the Blue Jays’ clubhouse shifted dramatically as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. rallied his teammates, insisting, “It’s not over yet. They gotta win four. Four games to win the World Series.” His message resonated, and the star slugger backed it up with a crucial two-run homer off Shohei Ohtani in the third inning, setting the tone for the Blue Jays’ resurgence.
This victory marked an impressive rebound for Toronto, which delivered a stellar performance both offensively and on the mound. Shane Bieber showcased his skill, throwing four-hit ball into the sixth, and the Blue Jays regained home-field advantage in the series. Their win guarantees that the World Series trophy will be decided at Rogers Centre.
“Coming off what could be a back-breaking loss last night, it was an absolute pleasure to show up today and see nobody changes,” Bieber stated. “Nobody wavers. It’s the same group of guys each and every day.” The Blue Jays’ resilience shone through as they delivered a commanding performance against the defending champions, who are now facing pressure after their third loss in 14 postseason games.
Ohtani, who pitched just over 17 hours after a remarkable Game 3 performance in which he reached base nine times, struggled on the mound. He allowed four runs on six hits in six-plus innings while striking out six. Despite his efforts, the Dodgers’ offense fell flat, managing only six hits and failing to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
“We’re facing quality arms at this time of year,” Ohtani remarked through an interpreter. “We could do at least the bare minimum and put up some runs.” The Dodgers, who scored first in this game, were unable to maintain momentum and fell victim to a powerful Blue Jays lineup.
Game 4 began with the Dodgers taking an early lead when Kiké Hernández drove in Max Muncy with a sacrifice fly in the second inning. However, the Blue Jays quickly responded, ending a 13-inning scoring drought with Guerrero’s critical homer. This was Guerrero’s seventh home run of the postseason, setting a Toronto record.
Following Guerrero’s homer, the Blue Jays capitalized on Ohtani’s vulnerability, launching a four-run seventh inning that featured contributions from Daulton Varsho and Ernie Clement. The Blue Jays’ offense was bolstered by Addison Barger, who recorded two hits and an RBI, proving their depth and determination.
As the series shifts back to Los Angeles for Game 5, all eyes will be on the pitching rematch between Blake Snell and Trey Yesavage. The stakes are high, with both teams vying for a decisive edge in the series. The tension mounts as the Blue Jays aim to capitalize on their momentum.
With the World Series now tied, the excitement intensifies as fans anticipate what promises to be a thrilling Game 5.
