Fitchburg State’s Craig Sheil Honored with MassCUE Pathfinder Award
Craig Sheil, an adjunct instructor at Fitchburg State University, has been awarded the prestigious MassCUE Pathfinder Award at the 2025 MassCUE conference, held at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts. This recognition celebrates educators who have significantly contributed to the field of educational technology.
In his remarks, Sheil expressed gratitude for the honor, stating, “It is such an honor to be recognized for this award. I am certainly proud of the work that I have done along my educational journey.” The Massachusetts Computer Using Educators (MassCUE) organization grants this award to individuals whose leadership and innovative approaches inspire fellow educators.
Celebrating Educational Innovation
Sheil shared the award with Dr. Rayna Freedman, a fifth-grade teacher at Jordan Jackson School in Mansfield. With over 23 years in public education, Sheil began his career as a high school mathematics teacher before transitioning to his current role as a digital learning specialist at Bedford High School in New Hampshire. This position allows him to support educators in effectively integrating technology into their teaching practices.
“It certainly is not a dull moment as we continue to navigate this world of AI and what that might look like in the educational setting,” Sheil noted. He completed his master’s degree at Fitchburg State University in 2012, and he values the reciprocal relationship between his teaching and specialist roles. “I love that I am able to take learnings from this role and apply it to the classes that I co-teach or teach at Fitchburg State University and vice versa.”
MassCUE’s Mission and Impact
MassCUE, a nonprofit organization, is dedicated to empowering educators passionate about digital teaching and learning. By recognizing outstanding contributions in educational technology, MassCUE aims to foster innovation and inspire professional growth among its members.
Sheil’s recognition serves as a testament to the ongoing commitment of educators to adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing digital landscape. As schools increasingly embrace technology, leaders like Sheil play a crucial role in guiding their peers and students toward effective and meaningful educational experiences.
