Fans Outraged as aespa’s Winter Misses Concert Due to Illness
Fans of the K-pop group aespa expressed their outrage after member Winter was unable to participate in the group’s concert in Thailand due to health issues. The incident occurred during their third world tour, SYNK: aeXIS LINE, this past weekend at the renowned Impact Arena. Hours before the second day of the concert on November 16, 2025, SM True Thailand announced Winter’s absence from the sound check, citing health reasons and stating she would be “resting fully in preparation for the concert.”
Subsequent updates from the agency revealed that Winter had been diagnosed with “cold and flu-like symptoms” after visiting the hospital, leading to the decision to exclude her from both the sound check and the concert. The statement emphasized the priority of the artist’s health and well-being.
“This decision has been made with the artist’s health and well-being as our top priority. We sincerely hope for the understanding of all fans,” the statement read.
The announcement quickly ignited backlash among fans, who criticized SM Entertainment for allegedly failing to prioritize the health of its artists. Many pointed out that this incident reflected a broader pattern of intense scheduling without consideration for the members’ well-being. One fan expressed frustration, stating, “SM planned an insanely packed schedule for the girls with zero regard for their health.”
Winter’s absence from the concert was particularly notable, as this event marked aespa’s 11th show in just six weeks, following a series of performances in Japan. Just days earlier, on November 14, the group had performed a ten-song set at Amazon Music Live in Los Angeles before embarking on a lengthy flight to Bangkok.
Fans highlighted the toll such a rigorous schedule can take, noting that Winter had previously undergone surgery for a collapsed lung, which typically requires weeks of recovery. Observations from the concert indicated that Winter appeared visibly unwell, yet she pushed through the performance, leaving fans both concerned and admiring her dedication.
Social media reactions captured a mix of support for Winter and anger towards the agency. One fan remarked, “This is no one’s fault but SM’s… please get well soon Winter.” Another noted Winter’s struggle during the concert, stating, “From the start of the concert til the end, Winter was seen catching her breath a lot.”
Compounding concerns, fellow member Karina was also reported to be unwell, with fans noticing her coughing throughout the performance. Earlier, Karina had expressed difficulty in participating in interviews due to her health.
The ongoing health issues faced by aespa members have prompted fans to call for changes in their management practices. The recurring theme of missed performances due to health concerns has raised questions about the sustainability of the group’s current schedule.
Despite the challenges, aespa continues to maintain a strong following, with many fans expressing their hopes for improved conditions for the artists. As Winter recovers, the support from fans remains unwavering, underscoring the passionate connection between the group and its audience.
