Charlie Sheen Celebrates Dodgers’ World Series Win During Memoir Tour
Charlie Sheen took to the stage at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon, California, on November 1, 2023, for the first Southern California stop of his memoir tour. The event, promoting his book The Book of Sheen, witnessed an unexpected twist as the audience erupted in cheers not solely for the actor but in celebration of the Los Angeles Dodgers, who had just tied Game 7 of the World Series.
Sheen’s appearance was notably delayed by nearly an hour, a fact that quickly became clear as television and radio host Billy Bush, Sheen’s longtime friend and moderator for the event, informed the crowd that the actor was still backstage, captivated by the game. Bush, responding to the audience’s enthusiasm, asked if they were also following the game, prompting additional cheers.
The excitement was palpable, yet the event faced an obstacle when attempts to broadcast the game on the theater’s monitors were thwarted due to licensing restrictions. In a light-hearted moment, Bush suggested that Sheen could join the audience in watching on their phones, a proposal met with enthusiastic approval.
As the event unfolded, a highlight reel showcasing Sheen’s illustrious career was displayed, featuring iconic scenes from productions like Two and a Half Men, Platoon, and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Finally taking the stage, Sheen humorously acknowledged the unusual circumstances, stating, “It is really impossible to pretend that I care about ‘Platoon’ or ‘Two and a Half Men’ right now. We’re all in this together, though, right?”
The first half of the event largely revolved around the World Series, with Sheen adopting a sports analyst persona, providing detailed commentary on the game’s plays. Bush cleverly attempted to weave in questions about Sheen’s career, but the audience’s focus remained primarily on the unfolding drama of the baseball game.
The atmosphere shifted dramatically when it was confirmed that the Dodgers had clinched the World Series title. The crowd erupted in applause, with Sheen joining fans in Dodgers attire for high-fives and celebrations on stage. In a celebratory gesture, he unveiled a can of his new nonalcoholic beer, Wild AF, joking that the “AF” stood for “alcohol-free.”
Bush expressed the shared joy of the moment, saying, “How crazy is it that we all got to celebrate this together tonight?” The evening continued with nostalgic anecdotes, including a heartfelt moment when Dolores Robinson, the talent manager for Sheen’s father, shared memories of driving the actor to Dodgers games during his childhood.
Amid the joyous atmosphere, Sheen addressed more serious topics as well. A mother in the audience sought his advice regarding her son’s struggles with addiction. Sheen spoke candidly about the unwavering support from his own mother, emphasizing that it is never too late for a fresh start, stating, “One moment can change everything. It’s about making the decision and sticking to it.”
The event also featured discussions about Sheen’s experiences in Hollywood, including insights from his Netflix documentary aka Charlie Sheen. He recounted how he nearly missed out on key roles, such as in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, due to oversleeping.
As the event drew to a close, Sheen hinted at future projects, including a potential sitcom with a writer from Two and a Half Men. “The script for this is a gem,” he assured the audience, suggesting that fans could expect news soon.
The evening was a blend of celebration and reflection, as Sheen navigated his dual role as a memoirist and a devoted fan of baseball. The unpredictable nature of the night, marked by the Dodgers’ victory and Sheen’s engaging narrative, left a lasting impression on attendees, exemplifying how sports and personal stories can intertwine in unexpected ways.
