URGENT UPDATE: A bicyclist in his 80s has tragically died from injuries sustained in a crash with a driver in Palo Alto. The incident occurred on October 4, 2023, but the bicyclist succumbed to his injuries just yesterday, October 11, 2023, according to police reports.

The collision took place around 12:20 PM on the 3400 block of Foothill Expressway, near Hillview Avenue. Initial investigations reveal that the victim was traveling southbound in a designated bicycle lane when he unexpectedly veered into traffic and was struck by a 2022 Mercedes-Benz. Despite wearing a helmet at the time, the bicyclist suffered a serious head injury and was rushed to a local hospital, where he later passed away.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased as the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office is in the process of confirming details and notifying next of kin. The driver, a man in his 90s, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
