A rare diamond ring recovered from the wreck of the RMS Titanic is now on display at the TITANIC: The Artifact Exhibition in Las Vegas. This marks the first time the exquisite jewelry has been exhibited in a decade, showcasing a significant piece of maritime history.

Historic Recovery and Unique Design

The diamond ring features three old European-cut diamonds, with a stunning 2-carat pear-shaped center stone flanked by two 1-carat round diamonds. It was originally discovered during the first recovery expedition in 1987 by RMS Titanic Inc. (RMST). The artifact was found in a leather bag within the Titanic’s debris field, where it remained submerged for 75 years before being carefully recovered.

Experts at RMST believe the bag belonged to one of the Titanic’s pursers, who was responsible for safeguarding passengers’ valuables during the chaotic evacuation. Unfortunately, the pursuer never had the chance to return these belongings to their owners. “This once-in-a-lifetime diamond ring is one of Titanic’s more elegant artifacts,” remarked Tomasina Ray, President and Director of Collections at RMST. “It reflects the sophistication of the Edwardian Era and the personal stories that continue to connect us to Titanic’s legacy.”

A Milestone in Titanic Exploration

The recovery of the ring in 1987 was a pivotal moment in Titanic exploration. Using the submersible Nautile, the RMST team successfully lifted the bag from the seabed, uncovering a treasure trove of jewelry and personal items that had been untouched since the ship sank in 1912. This historic recovery was also featured in the 1987 television special “Return to the Titanic,” hosted by Telly Savalas.

Today, the diamond ring joins hundreds of other authentic artifacts displayed at the Las Vegas exhibition, including the massive Big Piece, a 15-ton section of the ship’s hull. Las Vegas is the only location globally where this significant piece is showcased, allowing visitors to explore the craftsmanship, luxury, and human stories associated with the world’s most famous ocean liner.

The TITANIC: The Artifact Exhibition is located inside the Luxor Hotel & Casino and operates daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with final admission at 5 p.m.. For additional information and ticket purchases, interested individuals can visit TitanicLasVegas.com.
